Local theatre lovers can get ready to fall in love all over again when Pretty Woman: The Musical makes its South African stage debut in 2026. Based on the beloved 1990s film starring Julia Roberts and Richard Gere, this feel-good musical brings romance, humour and nostalgia to life at Artscape Opera House, Cape Town from 18 March, followed by a Johannesburg season at Montecasino’s Teatro from 24 April.

What is Pretty Woman: The Musical about?

Pretty Woman: The Musical tells the story of Vivian Ward, a spirited woman with big dreams, and Edward Lewis, a successful but emotionally guarded businessman. Their unexpected romance unfolds in a vibrant, music-filled journey about love, self-worth and transformation.

The musical features a book by Garry Marshall and J.F. Lawton, creators of the original film, direction and choreography by Tony Award® winner Jerry Mitchell, and a hit-packed score by Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance, including the iconic title song Oh, Pretty Woman by Roy Orbison and Bill Dee.

Meet the South African Cast for Pretty Woman: The Musical

Lead Roles
Leah Mari stars as Vivian Ward. A Fleur du Cap Theatre Award winner for My Fair Lady, Leah has also appeared in The Sound of Music and CHICAGO The Musical.
Christopher Jaftha stars as Edward Lewis. Known for his roles in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, West Side Story and the film Khaki Fever (NFTA Best Actor nominee).

    Pretty Woman was a movie i watched over and over. Each time i watched it with the same amount of joy and enthusiasm and got lost in the romance of the story.
    I know that if i won this my girlfriends and i would go and we would ALL recreate those memories, feelings and it would honestly bring so much happiness to us all.
